PeerJ is pleased to announce that we are now a full Member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
COPE “provides advice to editors and publishers on all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct.” It was “established in 1997 by a small group of medical journal editors in the UK but now has over 7,000 members worldwide from all academic fields.”
By signing up to COPE, PeerJ warrants that we will adhere to the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and that we will follow COPE guidelines when dealing with issues surrounding publication ethics. Not all journals or publishers adhere to these guidelines, so if your publisher doesn’t, then you may want to ask yourself why not…
PeerJ is also a member of other professional organizations such as OAPSA (the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association), CrossRef, EZID and CLOCKSS; we are fully indexed in PubMed, PubMed Central, Scopus, and Google Scholar; and we were named as one of the “Top 10 Technology Innovators in Higher Education, 2013” by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
