We are pleased to announce that PeerJ has been accepted for indexing by PubMed Central® (PMC), PubMed and Scopus®. PeerJ articles will start to appear in PMC, PubMed and Scopus in the next few weeks. In addition, Google Scholar has indexed PeerJ content since launch.

We are fully aware that being appropriately indexed and maximally discoverable is extremely important for our authors. We understand that you publish your research so that others can discover, read, discuss, cite and build upon it. If no one can discover, let alone read, the article that you spent years researching, and months writing, then it was pointless to even publish it in the first place.

As an author, publishing your article under an Open Access (OA) license is the first step towards full discoverability – OA articles can be read by anyone, anywhere, for free. PeerJ publishes all content using a Creative Commons CC-BY 3.0 license, meaning that we fully meet the Open Access definition of all Funder and Institutional mandates.

In addition, of course, it is important that your articles are marked up with comprehensive metadata – PeerJ provides some of the richest metadata you will find at any publisher: all HTML content contains embedded microdata, and the article is made available in the NISO JATS standard XML format, as well as in PDF format (for the humans to read). Machine-readable metadata for each article is provided as JSON, RDF/XML, BibTeX, RIS and many other formats, and is deposited with indexing services such as CrossRef, to maximise discoverability.

And finally, being indexed in those locations (such as PMC, Scopus®, PubMed and Google Scholar) which most readers use to discover their content is of course vitally important.

PeerJ has now published over 60 articles, since launching just over a month ago. In addition, PeerJ PrePrints is now available for your preprint needs (note that preprints are not indexed by PMC or Scopus®). Read comments from authors who have already experienced our process and submit your work now.

[Updates: We are also indexed at: PMC Europe, EMBASE,  CAB Abstracts, the ACS Databases, the DOAJ, AGORA, ARDI, HINARI, and OARE]

Update 10/27/2014: PeerJ is also now indexed by Web of Science (WoS), Biological Abstracts and BIOSIS Previews. The journal will receive a JCR 2014 Impact Factor in June 2015.
